A Word from Maxine:
"A runner at heart, I went for my first run with my Dad when I was 12 years old. I've been hooked on pushing my body to its limits ever since... I love working out, challenging my body, and sweating like a fiend. I'm also one of those strange folks that actually likes the feeling of sore muscles."

"I started weight training during my second year of undergraduate studies at the University of Guelph, back in 1992. Since then, I've never taken substantial time off. I don't feel complete, or healthy, without lifting weights. For the most part, I'm self-taught and experiment with exercises, sets and reps to see what works best for my body. I read magazines and books about fitness to no end, and absorb like a sponge."

"2002 was my first competition, and at the time I said it would be my last... Of course now I can only recall the good times, so I'm considering competing again. My main reason? I know I can do it better this time around and make it to the lightweight category. The first competition was a steep learning curve, and I wasn't quite prepared for the challenges of training - or more precisely, the challenges of dieting. The physical training was easy for me, although it was a huge time commitment (57 hours at the gym in March!!). The diet, though, was extremely difficult, and expensive! Carbohydrate deprivation is not a fun thing to do..."

"Pat Wallace was an incredible help during my training, designing my program and helping me with my diet. My partner, Tim Fedak, was also crucial to my success. The path leading up to getting on stage is a long and hard one, and it can't be done without strong support from friends and family."
